Android’s Dominance in Smartphone Market Share for 2013

After a long tally up of the smartphone market shares for 2013, Android come out as the dominating OS. 2013’s growth for Android was a very steep incline, however statistics seem to prove that the dominance is beginning to cool off. Sounds like the year of 2013 was pretty good for Android, however it has been proven that despite the massive amount of the smartphones running Android, it was also the slowest annual growth rate since it was released to the public in 2007.

One major factor in Android being able to dominate the market is the fact that the prices for smartphones running it, vary in price and this means that it is very appealing to most groups, for example the Motorola Moto G is a bang for your buck smartphone and is pretty much the lowest you can go in terms of pricing before hitting phones which lack the power to run most of the applications on the Play Store. This means that most budgets are being covered with phones which will certainly impress most first time smartphone users.

Only time will tell if Android remains the overall dominating mobile OS, however currently owning 79%, as well as a wide variety of priced phones, I do doubt that anything will be taking over from Android as of yet, then again with iOS dragging on behind and with the leaked bigger iPhone 6. There is always a chance for Apple to redeem their place as the screen size seems like the problem many people have, as well as the lack of customisability, then again the iOS 7 jailbreak could solve these problems for many consumers.
